OUR MIND & MEDITATION

There is nothing in this world that can trouble us more than our own thoughts!

Our minds are an incredible tool, but it also could be detrimental to us in so many ways..how do we focus on positive things instead of negative, when negative is what we are conditioned to, and hear the most? Why do we have the urge to take in more information to our brains than necessary, when we really don’t need it..

If you can sit and concentrate only on a beautiful butterfly for 5 min without getting any other thoughts distracting you, you are well on your way. I started meditating for 5 min and it was incredibly hard as my mind was completely out of control many times. With practice, taking small steps, and not setting up too high goals that can make us disappointed, I noticed a change in my energy, focus and how I felt. Every little thing, as small as walking down the street.

We are thinking..

- should I take the short way or the long way

- is that man in front of me is going to bump into me or not

- am I going to be late for work

- am I going to have a good day today and so on..

It truly makes our minds crazy, thinking we really need all that information. Also imagine at the same time we are thinking of those little things, there are thousands more things that come up every second. If we can stay, and float around in the moment, I realized we get a peace that we can’t or never want to be without. I also found I need to protect this at all cost.

You are thinking easier said than done..

What do we do when we feel trapped or can’t stop thinking? We do and say impulsive and irrational things, or we start feeling numb to anything and anyone. We work as robots to avoid that feeling of serenity that takes us to a different place. If we don’t let our minds rest, it will give us illusions of things that are not real.. It’s like not having food or water for extended periods of time, your mind and body will shut down and will not be able to think, speak or even move in a healthy peaceful way anymore. Moving or still meditation changed my thoughts and situation to creativity, serenity and peace that I never thought was there.

Meditation

To stop and stay in the moment and let my mind rest, I started meditating. It doesn’t teach me how to escape from my thoughts, but to see the difference between my thoughts, and who I really am. Every day I meditate, it heals my Body and Mind & Spirit. That’s why I find it the most important out of all my practices. I started to be aware of every small little detail of what I did. For example when I wash my face how the soap feels on my face, how it smells, how it looks, what do I hear. Being aware of all my senses makes me stay in the moment. After a while of practicing meditation, I learned to enter a deeper level, where I came in contact with my subconscious mind. And boy was that both thrilling and scary..

I saw the stories and things in my life that held me back, but also where they rise to the surface and begin to break apart. Research shows that in this deep state you can receive when meditating, is the key to learning, but also un-learning which I had no idea of.. Now that became my ultimate goal! And that’s what I want to arrive at, and practice every day to achieve. So once I learned to navigate that state somewhat..(still learning:) I could program in new patterns, and unlearn the old ones, which I realized are the sole reason I didn’t get ALL of my needs met in my life.

Meditation is an incredible tool so when my mind is spinning out of control I try to meditate. Today for example I sat on my couch as I normally do when I meditate, and I had a very hard time focusing, or stop thinking about everything I think is important and negative thoughts of what I haven’t completed. I started to breath deeply and slowly and felt more grounded again. When I feel stressed this way I try to meditate more than once per day, and most of the time it leads me going in the right direction again. When I step out and meet the world today I can keep that moment of peace with me, even if things around me are not.

Today’s Assignment;

Sit outside (If weather permits) barefoot, feel the earth and try to connect with everything around you, using all your senses. Close your eyes and breathe for 5 min. Have a day full of new things come to you today!
